How to delete an opening file

I failed to delete some files in the Vista system, below is the error message:

I don't think this file is in using because I reinstalled the related application to another directory, so I restarted the OS into safe mode, try again, I got the same error. so this file is not in using, it is a wrong indicator.

Perhaps it's permission which prevent me to delete the file, so I check the file permission:

Yes, even the administrator has no permission to delete this file. so we must assign sufficient permission to the current user (an administrator) :

The check boxes are grayed out, aha, it looks like the current user does not have the ownership.

Don't worry, as an administrator, you can seize the ownership from any user:

That's right! the current file owner is SYSTEM account, take it over:

Then reopen the file properities page, assign full control permission to the current user, delete the file, succeeded.

Vista is hateful, it mislead us by a wrong error message.

Five days boring training

I am attending a virtual class of Control Compliance Suite this week, from 8:00 to 12:00 in every morning. this class is difficult and boring for me, because I don't think CCS will sell well in China, this product is not designed for China, most of the build in standard are only apply for Americans. and the requirement of this kind of product is not very important for most enterprise in China.

CCS is a control or management oriented product, the terms are strange to me, I have no idea about this product before I attend this class, it's not a fruitful training for me. I regard this class as a English training class, it can help me to improve my listening skill. the trainer is a native American.

Telephone and Network, transport on one Cat-5 cable.

I deployed only one Cat-5 cable from my living room to my study, and the blue pair was used for the telephone, because I place the ADSL modem in the study, most of time, I surf the Internet at the study.

Recently, my wife wanna use the Internet connection also, we draw another Cat-5 cable from the study to the living room, it's terrible, we often step upon the cable, the cable make our room chaotic, I decide to make some changes.

Two options, the first one is to use a wireless device like wireless router or AP to replace the cable. we need to buy a router and a wireless adapter for my wife's laptop, the signal may be weak and not stable. the second one is use the Cat-5 cable in the wall to transfer the telephone signal and the network signal at the same time. it's much easier to implement, so I try the second option first.

Cut the cable which we used to transport network signal into bisection, connect these two sections to the Cat-5 cable in the wall, the blue pair was used by the telephone, I use the orange pair and green pair for ethernet signal transport.

Test the connection after I finished the wiring, it works very well.

The difference between migration and upgrade

Upgrading, means in-place upgrade commonly, it's very easy to implement because vendor will provide a wizard to lead you to finish the upgrading process.

Sometimes, software vendor need to make significant changes to the software's infrastructure (for example, from Microsoft Exchange 5.5 to Microsoft Exchange 2000), these changes may caused by big new features, integration between products, acquisition etc. Then it will be much difficult to do a in-place upgrade, migration may be the best choice in this case. the migration wizard will transfer the configuation and user data from the old system to the new system, move all items from the old system to the right place of the new system.

How to connect to console session remotely

I installed vmware workstation on my lab server, I login my lab server locally when I work in my office seat, when I back to home, I use vpn to connect to our enterprise network, then use TS to connect to my lab server. as you know, the openning vmware image can not be shared between multiple session, when I try to open the VMs which have already opened in local console session, vmware will forbid my operation. It's the same case if you try to open a VM which is openning in another session (local console or remote session).

Try to add the /console parameter after the mstsc command, if you start terminal service client with this parameter, the remote session will copy the console session, at the same time, the console session will be logout automatically. the command is:

mstsc /console

In Windows Vista, the parameter changed to /admin, so please modify your command accordingly.

Use "mstsc /?" command to get all parameters of mstsc command, some of them are very useful.

Upgraded to Vista SP1

I upgraded the OS on my laptop from XP to Vista yesterday, it's not an upgrading actually, because I reinstalled the OS and did not migrate the settings and user data from XP.

All my data are stored on special partiton, driver C is only used by OS, so I format the driver c before I install Vista. the whole installation process took about forty mins, and another twenty mins for initial configuration.

My laptop is compatible with Vista, so it's very easy for me to install the OS, The only two drivers I need to install are power management and fingerprint reader. I also installed APS for protecting my HD.

The reason that I don't use Vista until yesterday is software compatibility, some software I need to use everyday can not be installed on Vista, and the stability of an OS without any service pack is my another concern. so I begun to use Vista from sp1.

I was struggling with the new OS all day long in yesterday. the most troublesome part is installing and configuring VPN client, I need to use Cisco VPN client and RSA soft token to connect to our enterprise network remotely, I encountered a lots of issues and connected to the VPN gateway finally.

A good mark, right?

Virtual training, a product of Internet

Internet is very magical, it's changing our life constantly since it was born. we can find more and more information on the Internet, as the bandwidth connect to the Internet is keep on increasing, we can use some new forms of the information on the Internet. At the beginning, we use text-based information, like simple e-mail,html page,or character only bbs. Next, we add some pictures, audio files to the flat web page, people try to use FTP protocol to transfer large files between the hosts through the Internet. Then, people uploaded more multimedia information to the Internet, like flash, movie...

The virtual communication center will be widely used in our company from now on, we can save a lot of traveling cost by this new Internet or Intranet based tool. we can use this tool to hold meeting, deliver training, attend seminar or group discussing,etc. what you need is only a computer, a headset, a stable Internet connection, and maybe a webcam. then we can use the virtual communication center to share our ideas, exchange our thoughts, discuss questions etc. the presenter and participants can share their desktop with others, can present slides, draw or type on the virtual white board,give lecture. these activities are very similar to what we have in the real world. but if the network bandwidth is low or the latency is too long, people will get a bad experience.

For company, virtual communication can save money. For employees, they will lost some opportunities to travel, some people like to visit new places by a chance of business trip. they will think this opportunities as benefits. Some people don't like the virtual communication because they feel uncomfortable when they speak to machine rather than a real person.

Anyway, this project takes effect already, I hope it can really help us to do more with less.

Database and Mailbox, which is the most crucial asset

In your company, where does the most important information exist in?

Among the file server, the database server, the mail server, which is the most crucial one for your buiness. you will get diffierent answer for different buiness, in different era, in some cases, the answer maybe all of them.

When people just begin to use the computer to store their data, file is data container, more and more data are stored in more and more files, it's very difficult for people to organize these data and to find what they want to use. then database came out. data can be organized by relationship and store in the database, people use index to speed up the search process.

Nowadays, email is widely used, in some company, email replaced the telephone, has become the most useful communication tool. the workflow is based on mail delivery, if the mail server down, then employee can not work.

How to earn more money?

There are always some people complain they work very hard but earn a little money, the boss force them to work overtime, but never pay for their additional work, they feel hopeless, they think there are full of frustration in their life. they don't know how to change their life.

How to work less and earn more? below are my suggestion,

First, how much you boss pays to you depends on how much profit is gained from your effort, not how much you have done everyday. so people who work in a highly profitable company earn more money commonly, and people who can bring more profit for the company earn more money generally. work hard can help you to earn more, and you must work in the RIGHT company and be efficient.

Second, if you are irreplaceable or it's difficult for the boss to find a replacement of you, then you can earn more money. if you are the core of the business, then the boss will try his best to keep you working for him. how to be an irreplaceable employee? you should always be ready to bear the most challenging responsibilities. do the tasks others can't do, do the tasks better than others. it's difficult but worth.

Third, good interpersonal relationship is more important than your ability of working, if you can let people around you feel happy, then they will like to work with you, they will give you good evaluation, and even some good opportunities which can help you to make repid progress in your career.

Traffic jam in subway station

Are you confused with the title? as we know, the subway trains run on a dedicate line, they never encounter a traffic jam unless there is an accident or there is an error with the signal system.

Actually everything goes well this morning, but there are TOO MANY people in the HuoYing subway station, it was already 8:30 when I arrived at the subway station, a large troop of people go along the narrow zigzag passageway to get in the station. the subway company use some barriers to limit the passenger flow during the peak period, the peak time last thirty minutes commonly, from 7:30 to 8:00, but today, the passenger flow is still very high till 8:30.

There are more and more people take the subway to go to work since the ticket price reduce to 2 Yuan in last Oct. Yes, you only need to pay 2 Yuan for taking the subway once, wherever you want to go. For this reason the passenger flow volume was doubled since last year. The good news is subway company is planning to add two additonal carriages for each train run on Line 13. it is said this project will complete at the end of this year.

I read an article named "Going to the doctor" today. it said Americans only see the doctor when something is seriously wrong, because a doctor visit can cost more than 80 dollars, and health insurance doesn't always pay. you must make an appointment before you go to the doctor.

In some cases, American doctors may not prescibe medicine for the patient, just tell them to have plenty of rest.

In China, most of people always go to the hosipal when they feel sick, and they like go to the first grade hospital, because they think the doctors work in this kind of hospital are more professional, even it will cost much more money for people go to the high grade hospital than go to the small hospital, and patient must wait for diagnosing in turn. The goverment will carry out some new policies to encourage people go to small community hospital, one of them is the health insurance cover more proportion if people go to small hospital.

In China, if you go to the doctor, he or she will prescribe some medicines for the patient commonly, even the patient just have a little cold, because they can get benifit by selling these medicines, and the profit may be much more higher than the fee of diagnosis and treatment. and some medicine were abused, the side effect of these medicine do harm to people's body, destory people's immune system.

Some people like to take OTC (over the counter, it means you can buy this kind of medicine from the drugstore with a prescription) medicine when they have a cold or flu, have a slight fever, or just feel ache. They can save time and money, and most important, these medicines can really cure general disease in most of time.

Telephone molestation, Stop!

On the 3.15 evening party of this year, several companys who provide short message batched send service were criticized because their behaviors molest the phone owners' rights. They bought a lot of personal private informations from other company, and these informations were abused by these SP, like Focus Media company, who claim there are 2 hundred million persons' information in their database.

Now our goverement realized that personal private information need to be protected well, related legal regulations is in drafting, it will be released very soon.

there are many form of telephone molestation, like send junk short messages, make junk phone call, junk phone call is very annoying, some person call on your number and try to sell their products or services to you, and some phone calls were made by auto machine, it will be hung up immediately once the phone call is connected, you have no chance to pick up the phone call so the caller don't need to pay for it, but if you call it back later, you will find out you are molested, the auto machine will answer your call, said you got a prize, please contact some people for the prize..... some caller number is special service line, if you called these numbers, it will cost you a lot of money, from several Yuan to several tens Yuan.

It's very easy for SP to block this kind of molestion, they can limit the user's behavior, set a quota for how many calls a line can make and how many short messages a line can send out each day. but they don't do this, just because they can earn more money in this event. like China Railway, who reject to perform truename system for the ticket.

Goverment must interpose and push these companys to be responsible for customer's rights and benifits. because these business are monopoly.

The weather of Beijing

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is coming, people from all over the world are paying close attention to the weather of Beijing.

Some citizens of Beijing say, Beijing doesn't have spring and autumn, the summer season begin in May, end in Oct. The winter begin in Nov, end in Mar. some people think it's spring in Apr, yes, in Apr, the grasses grow out, the trees become green, and some flowers bloom. but the weather is not comfortable actually, in most of time, the weather is windy and dry, the air is full of dust.

During the NPC and CPPCC, some foreign reporter have interest in Beijing's weather, some athletes are also worrying about Beijing's weather. To be honest, I don't like the spring of Beijing, and the summer (Jul, Aug, Sep) is too hot. Autumn is the best season for Beijing, but it's too short.

Winter is not cold in Beijing, generally, the snow is not thick, but the winter is deathly, all plant are dead or in hibernation.

The good news is 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will be hold in Aug, it's almost the best period of the year in Beijing, Beijing will show her best appearance to the world at that time.
